2011-2012

Another year over...

2011 was good as far as years go. The most monumental event was breaking the confines of residence life employment and getting a job in my desired occupation.

On New Year's Day, Amazon had a sale of mp3 albums for $5. I subsequently loaded up:

Coldplay Mylo Xyloto: The album itself isn't that bad, but for me it confirms Coldplay as a mediocre band. Ever since their second album A Rush of Blood to the Head, there has been a lot of talk about them obtaining the type of super status of U2, commercially and artistically. They haven't produced music to back it up. Both their latest release and Viva La Vida sound like they're trying very hard to be U2.

Peter Gabriel So: Gabriel has been on the edge of my musical periphery for a while now. This is apparently his most successful and critically acclaimed album and it certainly did not disappoint me. I foresee myself digging deeper into his catalog.

Davie Bowie Hunky Dory: It was my sophomore or junior year in high school when I bought a David Bowie greatest hits collection. For whatever reason I never followed up by buying a Bowie studio album. Hunky Dory doesn't disappoint.

Ryan Adams Ashes and Fire: I liked Ryan Adams before liking Ryan Adams was cool. Ashes and Fire is a good return to solid songwriting that his last few releases were sometimes lacking. Its quiet and has some hopeful thoughts hidden amongst his imagery.
