The Beatles

The last few days I've been delving back into The Beatles. My first real experience with the Beatles would have been the '1' collection of singles released in 2001. Prior to that the only knowledge I had of them was one of my friends in middle school who was a Beatles fanatic and erroneously believed that none of their songs were in anyway related to drugs or drug use. Around my junior or senior year in high school I bought Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I have distinct memories of listening to them while working produce at Food City. At the time Abbey Road was my distinct favorite.

It wasn't until my Junior year of undergrad that I really got into the Beatles other albums. In the fall of 2005, I purchased Rubber Soul and Revolver. It what order I can't recall. These two albums dominated my time for several months. The songs had the benefit of describing many things I was going through at the time and as such they have a very important place in my musical background. I hadn't listened to their albums in entirety for more than two years, but was able to remember every song in detail upon revisiting them.

It was around this time that I really began to realize the extent to which the Beatles had shaped modern music. Much of what is the standard in musical composition for rock music today was pioneered by the Beatles in lyrics, song format, and production technique. It is remarkable to imagine how much they accomplished in such a short period of time.
